Pranav P. Mathkar
Welcome!
Hello! My name is Pranav Mathkar [Pruh-nuhv Muhthuh-kuhr Marathi: प्रणव मठकर 'pɾəɳəʋ 'məʈʰkəɾ; Kannada: ಪ್ರಣವ ಮಠಕರ]. I was born and raised in Pune, where I completed my Bachelor's degree in Pharmacy (2013) from Jayawantrao Sawant Collee of Pharmacy and Research at the University of Pune.
In 2015, I moved to sunny shores of California to pursue Master's degree in Biotechnology and Bioinformatics (2017) from California State University Channel Islands, before joining the Regenerative Medicine Institute at Cedars Sinai Medical Center as a research assistant.
In 2020, I joined the neuroscience graduate program at University of Vermont to begin my doctoral journey and joined Dr. Weston in his lab. I am currently a neuroscience graduate student at Fralin Biomedical Research Institute at Virginia Tech Carilion, where I study the mechanisms of genetic epilepsies of childhood.
Outside the lab, you can generally find me wandering the halls of a nearby bookstore or a library, perusing through stacks of books while purposefully ignoring my substantially long TBR list or trying to explore old record stores to feed my unhealthy relationship with my ever-growing record collection.
During summer-autumn, I am on the look out for new hiking trails or camping spots in the mountains or planning my next trip to distant corners of the globe. One of my goals is to visit as many new places as possible and explore obscure places of interest and especially the local cuisine.
On weekends, I love to experiment with new recipes in my kitchen whether it be spicy curries or sweet confectionaries, while watching anime or television. My other hobbies include making playlists, taking care of my plant babies, and listening to interesting podcasts *always taking suggestions :)*
You can follow me on my blog or on my socials here.
